Battle for Bihar: BJP's bet on Nitish as CM face will impact an uncertain INDI Alliance

After the success in the Delhi Assembly Elections, the BJP is now gearing up for the Bihar Assembly elections. Amid these preparations, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is in Delhi today and is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda.

This meeting attains importance as the BJP’s focus is on the Bihar Assembly polls which are to be held somewhere around October-November. It is expected that the leaders might discuss the formulation of strategy for the elections and also discuss seat sharing among the NDA constituents.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bihar on February 24 for the Kisan Nidhi Samman Yojana event in Bhagalpur. Ahead of PM’s visit Nitish Kumar is in Delhi as he is very satisfied with the Union Budget and wants to congratulate PM Modi for this.

Meanwhile, deviating from its earlier stand of not declaring a CM face ahead of Assembly polls, in Bihar, the BJP has decided to go with Nitish as the CM face. The BJP has assured Nitish Kumar that NDA will contest the elections under his leadership and it is believed that this is being done so that he does not change sides like always. If we look at the old history of Nitish Kumar, he has changed parties four times and keeping this in mind the BJP does not want to take any risk and will contest the Bihar elections by letting Nitish be the face and contest under his leadership.

Moreover making Nitish the CM face is also BJP’s compulsion as his party the Janata Dal-United (JDU) is an important component of NDA at the Centre having 12 seats in Lok Sabha and........
