Oscars Night? No, It’s World Baseball Classic Night
Until Jeff posted about it, I had no idea that the Oscars were tonight. Now that I know, I couldn’t care less. Why would anyone watch the Academy Awards when you can watch the World Baseball Classic semifinals instead?
Team USA and the Dominican Republic — two of the greatest baseball teams ever assembled — are facing off to see who will go to the international tournament’s final game. The U.S. team is superior on paper, but its star-studded offense has yet to fully click. The Dominican team has one of the most terrifying lineups that baseball has ever seen.
The WBC so far has been electric, but this game is special. Paul Skenes, perhaps the best young pitcher today, is on the mound for America. The Dominican Republic throws a full-blown party every time it hits a home run — which happens a lot. Fans are composing impromptu Latin symphonies in the stands.
Dear readers, do yourself a favor: Turn off the Oscars, and tune into this game.
