Britain’s armed forces are dangerously stretched – and are growing more so by the day.
Four fronts define this new normal of rising hazard. We face a mix of cleaning up other people’s messes, while trying to protect our own back yard. The Government is getting the military ready to help stabilise Ukraine if there is ever a peace settlement. And to help guarantee maritime security in Hormuz, if the shooting between the US, Israel and Iran stops.
There are also the ongoing home guard tasks of defending the British Isles against hybrid attacks, which the Russians in particular continue to mount.
