In the face of propaganda that describes anti-racists as disconnected from reality or perhaps paid off by some globalist conspiracy, the Roman marchers – young, many and combative – are evidence for a completely different view of the city.
Metro Line C, which runs from the outskirts of eastern Rome to the Colosseum, is unusually crowded for a sweltering Saturday at the time of the midday heat. The crowd is made up of people coming to the march against remigration.
The packed subway cars are a refutation of the diagnoses by politicians and xenophobic agitators who do not truly know the suburban neighborhoods and describe these areas as being at the mercy of street gangs or full of Italians who dislike foreigners. After all, it took a sovereignist YouTuber – a certain Simone Carabella – to be narrow minded enough to think that simply waving a porchetta sandwich around (really!) would be enough to offend the Muslims celebrating in the Centocelle neighborhood last week. Instead, the smartphone-wielding agitator was welcomed with thunderous laughter and pats on the back.
