Is it reasonable to ask the insurance company to fairly compensate my mother for the money she lost over a mistake that was fully theirs?

Q: My mother's long-term care insurance company recently realized they had been overcharging her for the past three-and-a-half years. They sent her a refund check for about $5,000, plus interest of about 4.5% for the entire period. While it would appear to be good to have received interest on the overpayment, had my mother kept the money in her brokerage account, she would have earned about 25% over the same 3.5-year period. Is it reasonable to ask the insurance company to fairly compensate my mother for the money she lost over a mistake that was fully theirs?

A: No, I don't think it would be........
