From curing the common cold to growing meat in a laboratory, Scotland's expanding cadre of biotechnology companies is a highly valuable component of the country's economy working to improve lives and create a more sustainable future.

Today's news from IBioIC is therefore welcome, with Scotland's leading biotech innovation network announcing the addition of more than 100 new members in 2024 to take the alliance beyond the 300 mark. Such numbers also speak volumes to the resiliency within the sector, which is coming through several difficult years in terms of funding.

Among the network's newest members is Edinburgh-based Vaste, which is developing an online procurement platform to ensure consistent supplies of biomass feedstock and thus support the transition away from petrochemical-based materials.
