Visitor levy group will have good intentions but may collide with reality
It’s reassuring the chair of Edinburgh’s new Visitor Levy Advisory Forum, Julie Ashworth, and her new team of 12 advisors are “excited to get to work”. So they should be, with the Tourist Tax forecast to raise around £50 million a year by 2030, and a host of unbudgeted projects all desperate for cash.
But whether this excitement is sustained after the expectations of this disparate bunch – from an “equality and rights network development worker” to Scottish Rugby’s CEO – collide with the reality of local pork barrel politics is another thing.
Ms Ashworth herself is not short of things to do, with a list of appointments longer than the Labour group’s Christmas party bar bill, including a trusteeship........
