As I’m sure everyone and their dog knows by now, yesterday the Supreme Court presented its judgement on the definition of a woman under the current version of the Equality Act.
The result, and there’s no reason to sugar coat this, was the removal of rights from a tiny and extremely vulnerable population, followed by the popping of champagne corks outside and celebrations from far-right and hate-based groups in this country and abroad. As I wrote on social media, men who don’t believe women have the right to bodily autonomy were declaring the ruling a victory for women’s rights.
Many women, including a number I know personally, were horrified by the decision, decrying it as an example of the kind of biological determinism that feminism is supposed to oppose.
