The right way to protest the Gaza blockade
The continued blockade of Gaza, cutting off food, power and medical supplies, is a shocking, continuing horror.
It won’t be eased much by the exemptions now made, not least by pressure on Israel’s Government from its own military. It breaches international law and virtually all normal concepts of political and social morality. Few disagree. The British-French-Canadian condemnation of it is welcome. But why has it taken so long?
What passes for debate on Israel/Palestine issues is crudely bipolar. Demonstrations to support the Palestinians sometimes veer into antisemitism. They never seem to include condemnation of Hamas, whose barbaric fanaticism on October 7, 2023 began the current chain of ghastly events. The seizure of innocent Israelis on that day and their continued detention cannot be........
