Srinagar’s congestion has reached a point where it is no longer an inconvenience—it is a daily disruption. From Airport to Buchpora and from Panthchuk to Parimpora, travel times are rising, roads are choked, and mobility is becoming increasingly unpredictable.

The Government has rightly identified decongestion as a priority, and recent statements indicate a clear intent to ease pressure on the city’s core. However, there is a deeper issue that needs attention—one that goes beyond traffic management and infrastructure. It is the disconnect between the objective of decongestion and the way the city is being regulated and built.
