'We look after our grandkids three days a week - we need a break'

We are retired and look after our grandkids three days a week, but we needed a break, so we booked a week in the sun.

But our son ‘surprised’ us by booking the same holiday with the kids.

We love them but really need time on our own.

And how do we have time on our own without offending them?

You are absolutely not being selfish, as you already provide a massive amount of childcare; therefore, in my opinion, it was selfish of them to hijack your holiday!

Accept that it’s happening, but before you step on the flight, explain you are burnt out and need uninterrupted rest, so you will not be on childminding........
