The nation’s capital could see its greatest heat risk beginning Thursday, according to the NWS, and some models predict a possible high of 106 degrees on Friday—which would tie the city’s all-time high.
Major cities including Chicago, New York and Atlanta are also in for record temperatures, with the extreme heat coming amid holiday events, World Cup games and the highly anticipated wedding of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
