I grew up outside Hamilton, Ont. I am the great-granddaughter of William Southam, founder of the Southam Press. It owned at one time the Montreal Gazette.

I moved out of Canada in 1973 to attend an American college. I have lived in the U.S. since then and became a proud US citizen in 1984. Becoming an American is one of the best decisions I ever made.

I was a reporter for People and Life magazines. I have also written for the New York Times; the Washington Post; Vogue and many other publications.

I am writing to alert you to my absolute horror at your employee Basem Boshra’s directive to CBC staff........
