The city is set to take over the operation of the southeast Valley Line LRT in the next year or two, ending an agreement that would have seen private consortium TransEd continue to run the trains until the 2050s.

The financial terms of cutting the deal short have not been disclosed, which obviously makes it hard to fully assess the city’s decision. But we do know that bringing the Downtown-to-Mill Woods Line into Edmonton Transit does alleviate a logistical headache that never should have been allowed to exist in the first place.
