Journeys on the Bittern Line, which runs between Sheringham and Norwich, have soared by 313pc since 1994, rising from just over 200,000 a year to more than 827,000.

The increase is put down to changes in the service, including the introduction of more regular trains, as well as the expansion of tourism and population growth along the 30 mile, 10 station line. 

Jonathan Denby, 58, head of corporate affairs at Anglia Railways - which operates on the line - said its success was also down to a long-running partnership between the firm and the communities which live along it.
