The blaze broke out at the end of High Noon Lane, Blofield, at around 5.30am on Wednesday.

It caused long tailbacks for already slow-moving traffic through the nearby roadworks on the A47.

Fire crews battled against the flames which tore through a some of the buildings, damaging workshops at Atlantic Van and Truck Centre and a neighbouring classic car garage.

The fire destroyed a section of the roofs at the businesses.

Simon Mason, incident commander, said: "The control room staff were able to identify the fire was quite significant and increased the number of appliances before we even arrived, which gave us the additional level of attack quicker to help us contain the situation."

Smoke could still be seen coming from the building around 9am while firefighters worked to dampen the property.

Police arrived to close off two roads leading to the estate, High Noon Lane and Bullacebush Lane, and turned drivers away from the area.

They then removed the road closures about an hour later while fire services then controlled access to the site.

Investigators for Norfolk Fire and Rescue Services are looking into the cause of the fire but officials have said it is not being treated as arson.

One shocked driver said: "There were firefighters on ladders. It looks destroyed."

It comes just two days after a pub 11 miles away in Drayton was 'firebombed' by arsonists.

Mark and Carol Wenn, who run the Old Mill, woke up to find their home and business had become overwhelmed by fumes.

Police are continuing their investigation into the suspected arson attack, which engulfed the Greene King pub on Monday morning.
