Historic coastal estate seeks new incomes from concerts, sculptures and football golf

The Cromer Hall Estate surrounds the famous 1829 gothic-style mansion believed to have inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in writing his Sherlock Holmes mystery, the Hound of the Baskervilles.

While the house remains a private home, the wider estate has renewed its efforts to engage with the public and capitalise on the tourism potential of its scenic location - a stone's throw from Cromer and the north Norfolk coast.

Hughie Cabbell Manners - whose parents Benjamin and Dido live in the hall - runs the estate alongside his wife Oli Curl.

The family business already includes the neighbouring Amazona Zoo, while a pick-your-own strawberries field was launched six years ago, adding to a campsite established in 2016 and a "football golf" venture set up during the Covid pandemic.

But now the diversification has ramped up a gear, grasping a myriad of new opportunities in an effort to ensure the estate remains viable for future generations.
