The Jessetts have been notified that Pisces, a charming cottage in Saxlingham Green, is in a location crucial to the proposed East Pye solar scheme and fear the uncertainty will scare off any buyers.

The project, if approved by Ed Miliband, the energy secretary, will see 2,718 acres of farmland on a patchwork of fields in surrounding villages covered with panels in order to help the country hit its ambitious net zero targets.

The property - which is estimated to be worth around £425,000 - belonged to Derek Jessett, who lived there for 54 years until his death in April, aged 88.

His children are now trying to sell it but fear they will be unable to do so after Island Green Power, the company behind the East Pye project, sought a development consent order (DCO) for the property.

This is a legal power which could force the owners to allow the solar farm firm to carry out work on the land, or even compel them to sell part of it.

The family only discovered this a month ago when a neighbour told them an official notice had been posted next to a telephone box in the centre of neighbouring village, Saxlingham Nethergate, a mile away.
