Energy sector unites behind call for homegrown production

The ‘Industry Action Day’ placed the UK’s offshore energy sector alongside trade unions, manufacturing, chemicals, shipping, engineering, aggregates and building materials, showing that domestic energy production is not a narrow industry issue.

It is a question of energy security, industrial competitiveness, skilled employment and the long-term strength of the UK economy.

By bringing offshore energy together with wider industry voices, the day highlighted the case that the North Sea remains central to any credible plan for national industrial regeneration.

Apprentices and offshore workers delivered the warning letter by hand – and it was received on behalf of all 403 Labour MPs.

The letter made it clear that the UK is at a turning point: the core policy choice is not whether the country will need oil and gas in the years ahead, because demand will continue for decades.

The choice is whether that energy is produced here, supporting UK jobs, communities and supply chains, or imported from overseas, increasing exposure to geopolitical risk and exporting economic value.

In Parliament Square, industrial workers wearing PPE and hard hats, alongside apprentices from across the country, presented that message directly to Labour MPs, putting real people and future careers at the centre of the debate.
