Highs and Lows of Trump’s AI-Slop Presidential Library
We’ve just gotten our first look at the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library, and it’s a gigantic, gaudy, self-aggrandizing monument to the 45th and 47th president. What else would you expect?
Presidential libraries are “repositories of history that are designed to hold, preserve and provide access to the archives” of former presidents, according to the National Archives. Over time, the term has “come to describe entire facilities, museums and campuses dedicated to the history and legacy of a president.”
Many Americans would prefer there be no facility celebrating Donald Trump’s legacy. But if you accept that Trump’s simply not getting a presidential library isn’t an option, the building depicted in the preview video released on Monday night isn’t all bad. The library does seem to capture the essence of the Trump presidency, and it has some features that MAGA fans and 12-year-olds of all political persuasions will find pretty cool. Yet even if you view this AI-generated video with an extremely generous eye, there are some bizarre and even offensive elements. Here are the highs and lows.
High: It looks like New York’s Freedom Tower.
The new skyscraper looks as if New York’s elegant One World Trade Center and some ugly Trump-branded building from the ’80s had a baby and then started a new life in Miami. But isn’t that a fitting architectural metaphor for Donald J. Trump himself?
Low: It may ruin Miami’s Freedom Tower.
