Before we get to the top things I learned from this past OK Tire Labour Day Weekend, let me first say congratulations to all the parents. You all survived the summer.

I’m so sorry for all the children having to go back to school, but your folks need the break.

Now go and learn about Russ Jackson and the history of Canadian quarterbacks.

OFFENSIVE LINEMEN CONTINUE TO GET INTO THE PASSING GAME

Listen. I’m a simple man. If you need someone to dissect a highly complex route tree with multiple receivers running an intricate set of patterns, you have come to the wrong place. If you need someone to highlight when a super big human catches a pass, then I’m your man.

Two weeks ago it was the Saskatchewan Roughriders left guard Daniel Johnson with a 17-yard reception. On Friday night it was Montreal Alouettes right guard Donny Ventrelli getting in on the action.

What I loved about his 22-yard catch was that it was not some sort of novelty play. This wasn’t a third-and-short, let’s-fool-a-linebacker play. This was on the Alouettes' first drive and on first-and-10. Ventrelli lined up at tight end, executed his pass pattern and was the intended target. The third-year lineman looked comfortable collecting the Davis Alexander pass.

I felt bad for Garry Peters, who is at least a 100 pounds lighter........
