Thousands spent on defending Mill Road bus gate 'another waste of public money'
Cambridgeshire County Council shelled out more than £31,800 in legal fees to defend the second challenge against its decision to limit access to Mill Road bridge for motorists. The council defended its introduction of a bus gate in court after Friends of Mill Road Bridge 2 launched a legal challenge.
The claim was ultimately thrown out last month, meaning the restrictions on the bridge will remain. Last year, the county council agreed to issue a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to install a bus gate on Mill Road bridge.
This marked the second instance of the authority issuing a TRO to enforce restrictions on the bridge, after the first order was quashed due to a legal challenge.
The TRO enforces restrictions that close the bridge to all motor vehicles, with exceptions for local buses, taxis, emergency services, blue badge holders' registered vehicles, vehicles in a disabled tax class, and vehicles on the council's permitted........
