Billions needed to stop Fens flooding as locals urge 'dredge the rivers'
Councillors have warned that billions of pounds in investment is required to avert 'catastrophic flooding' in the Fens. At its full council meeting, Cambridgeshire County Council passed a motion urging the government to acknowledge the significance of funding flood prevention efforts in the Fens.

Councillor Ros Hathorn (Liberal Democrat) raised concerns about the state of flood defences in Cambridgeshire, warning that they are nearing the end of their operational life. She emphasised the combined effect of ageing infrastructure and climate change as a "significant threat to the future of Cambridgeshire as we know it today".
Cllr Hathorn further warned that "when the pumps stop, Cambridgeshire will quite quickly begin to flood again". She drew attention to the Fens 2100 initiative, spearheaded by the Environment Agency, which aims to manage flood........
