These days, Smith is doubling down, tripling down. In this high-stakes game of political poker the Alberta premier is not folding.

I guess when you’ve been slimed as a traitor for more than a year and taken the hits and are still standing then backing down is likely not in the cards.

There are all kinds of voices in Canada who will not shut up about slamming a tax on Alberta oil going stateside or at least putting it on the table as a possible nuclear option.

They figure such a move would really show the Americans and President Trump who is boss.
