The long-frozen diplomatic channels between Russia and the United States appear to be thawing as high-level representatives from both countries prepare to meet at the Munich Security Conference (MSC) on February 14. This revelation, confirmed by US President Donald Trump on February 13, has sparked widespread speculation about whether the discussions could mark a turning point in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Trump further noted that Ukrainian representatives were also invited, though details about the format and participants remain ambiguous.
The upcoming talks will follow a nearly 90-minute phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump on February 12. This call, the first known direct interaction between the two leaders since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022, reportedly set the stage for further diplomatic engagement.
