Roni’s Remedy: Adding roommates, burnt up, and world’s apart

My parents are getting older, and I want them to live with me and my husband. He’s not sure it’s a good idea. We would have to build another room for them, and they are usually battling an illness. He doesn’t want to have our kids watch their grandparent’s health decline and doesn’t want to add on to the house. I just feel it’s my duty to take care of them. What do we do? – Caretaker Syndrome

Caretaker Syndrome – You two definitely have to be on the same page to be able to take your parents in. They would be in your personal space and both of you would actually end up being caretakers. Have you asked your parents what they want to do? Do they even want to live with you, or do they want to go to an elderly retirement home? I think that’s where you have to start first, just sitting down with them and seeing where they would like to spend the remainder of their time. It’s honorable........
