First Take: Is self-driving tech so bad?
When it comes to the topic of autonomous technology, such as self-driving cars and AI, I’ve always been a huge naysayer.
Self-driving tech was always a huge no-no for me, so much so that I wrote multiple articles and pieces about the downsides of it during my time in college at Arizona State.
However, my most recent big boy purchase of a new F-150, outfitted with Ford’s self-driving feature, BlueCruise, has shifted my perspective.
BlueCruise is an advanced driver-assist feature that enables hands-free driving on certain highways, designated as “Blue Zones,” which have been mapped out by Ford.
I’ve always believed that driving is a privilege, and if it were to be taken away by robots and technology, one of the luxuries of life would be spoiled.
However, now that I’ve toyed around with BlueCruise, the idea of letting advanced tech do just a slight bit of the highway heavy lifting on road trips isn’t as repulsive as it was before.
It’s still a bit scary, though. I certainly won’t be on my phone while it drives itself.
