I refuse to use self‑checkout lines at stores, and at this point it’s not a preference–it’s a matter of principle.

Every time a cashier waves me toward those glowing machines, I act like they’ve asked me to defuse a bomb. I also politely explain to them that I already have a job – I don’t work for the store.
