I survived Texas' deadly winter storm. I'm not focused on Ted Cruz.

You know what's worse than a winter storm in Texas in January for this uprooted Midwesterner?

When the politicians I voted to represent me in Congress abandon me for warmer climates in my time of need.

Just kidding.

I'm not mad that Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz was spotted hopping a plane to California on Jan. 20, a few days before a massive snowstorm was predicted to hit Texas and other states across the southern and eastern United States.

I joked that I'd jet to Laguna Beach, or wherever he went, if I could, too. Although that's probably not true: I miss snow and find it fun − as long as I still have power.

But a lot of people are upset about Cruz's traveling plans.

"Ted Cruz Hasn't Learned His Lesson on Fleeing Texas's Cold Weather," reads a headline at The New Republic. A Reddit thread on Cruz's trip to California already has more than 400 comments and almost 9,000 "upvotes." I'm surprised a Democratic politician hasn't taken this opportunity to smear a Republican colleague yet.
