Massie Exploits the USS Liberty

On June 8th, 2026, retiring U.S. Republican Rep. (also grifter, laughable libertarian, and self-serving politician) Thomas Massie (KY-4) gave a floor speech about one of the most debunked conspiracy theories prevalent among the online woke right. He went off on the USS Liberty incident, calling out Israel’s “deliberate” attack on an American ship on June 8th, 1967.

The event has long been recognized as a horrific example of mistaken identity and friendly fire, one that still plagues modern warfare despite incredible technological innovations. In an article I wrote a year ago, I exposed the truth about this incident—friendly-fire tragedy—and how anti-Semites and anti-Zionists (although telling the difference between the two is getting harder by the day) exploit this tragic event to demonize Israel.

Massie, who has turned his Congressional tenure into a relentless hatefest against all things Jewish and Israeli, insisted on propping up the conspiracy theory, because, well, why exactly?

Congressmen who lose their primaries become lame ducks. They have no incentive to play along with leadership, since they leave office the first week of January the next year. They can find respectable ways to spend the twilight of their political careers: retire early, cash in their pension, start writing that memoir, or get a job at one of the remaining corporate news agencies. They can also do everything they can to frustrate the powers that be who rubbed them out in the primary. 

One would think that they would do well on their way out. Instead of taking a more honorable exit, Massie is proving to everyone what little character he has. He has served in Congress since 2012, but only now does he want to talk about the USS Liberty incident? Only now does he care about the plight of those veterans and their story?
