Letters April 30: Relief about the vote, grateful for Laurel Collins

The election results clearly show the Conservatives blowing an election that was theirs to win.

In as little as two months the Conservatives let the Liberals go from apparent oblivion to victory. No doubt there were several reasons, primarily Mark Carney being more likeable than Pierre Poilievre.

But a major factor is, in times of crisis, with the threat from U.S. President Donald Trump to annex Canada, Canadians opted for a calm, reassuring and compassionate leader.

This was not the time to have an angry, divisive leader whose own riding rebuked him.

Phew! I am filled with both relief and gratitude. I am relieved that Canadians chose a prime minister who will lead us forward with intelligence and humanity.

And I am grateful to Jagmeet Singh and the NDP who have fought tirelessly for us all. The NDP brought us free dental and Fair Pharmacare.

They got interest charges removed from student loans. They challenged price-gouging CEOs from big grocery chain as well as from the oil and gas sector.
