Trump says US Navy will soon begin escorting ships through Strait of Hormuz

US President Donald Trump says the US will soon begin escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz to protect them from Iranian attack, as his administration searches for ways to ease high oil prices fueled by the US-Israeli war on Iran.

Asked when the US Navy will start escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, Trump tells reporters, “It will happen soon.”

He is also asked if US and Israeli objectives in the Iran war might be a little different in terms of ending the fighting.

“Well, they might be a little different, I guess, they are a different country than we are,” Trump says.

Iranian missile strike damaged 5 US refueling planes at Saudi airbase — WSJ

Five US Air Force refueling planes were struck and damaged on the ground at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing two US officials.

The planes, which were hit during an Iranian missile strike on the Saudi base in recent days, were damaged but not fully destroyed and are being repaired, the Journal says, adding that no one was killed in the strikes.

Trump says US ‘obliterated every military target’ on Iran’s Kharg Island, oil infrastructure spared for now

US President Donald Trump announces that American forces “totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island.

“For reasons of decency, I have chosen NOT to wipe out the Oil Infrastructure on the Island. However, should Iran, or anyone else, do anything to interfere with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider this decision,” Trump writes on Truth Social.

“Iran has NO ability to defend anything that we want to attack — There is nothing they can do about it!” he declares.

“Iran will NEVER have a nuclear weapon, nor will it have the ability to threaten the United States of America, the Middle East or, for that matter, the world!”

Trump urges Iran’s security forces to lay down their arm “and save what’s left of their country, which isn’t much!”

Asked during a Fox News Radio interview — which was recorded Thursday night and aired Friday morning — whether he is thinking about seizing the island, the president says it’s “not high on the list” but also he could “change my mind in seconds.”

The question appears to touch a nerve, eliciting scorn as Trump calls it a question that shouldn’t be asked.

“Who’d ask a question like that, and what fool would answer it?” he says. “Let’s say I was going to do it or let’s say I wasn’t going to do it, why would I tell you?”

Attacker shot himself after getting stuck in car he rammed into Michigan synagogue — FBI

The man accused of ramming his vehicle into a synagogue and setting it ablaze in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan, died from a “self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head,” an FBI official tells reporters.

The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, was originally born in Lebanon, and media reports indicate his relatives were killed in Israeli strikes there days ago — with some reports saying his brothers were members of the Hezbollah terror group.

However, Detroit area FBI special agent in charge Jennifer Runyan warns reporters it would be “irresponsible” to “speculate” on his motive at this time.

Ghazali crashed into Temple Israel on Thursday afternoon, got his vehicle stuck in a hallway and started firing his gun through the windshield, says Runyan. An armed security officer then shot at Ghazali through the vehicle’s back window, before Ghazali used his own weapon to fatally shoot himself, she adds.

Runyan clarifies that while security fired at Ghazali he ultimately shot himself to death when he couldn’t get out of the vehicle because it was wedged in the hallway.

The vehicle’s engine caught fire, and officials later found large quantities of commercial grade fireworks and several jugs of a liquid believed to be gasoline.

Lebanon reports 12 medical personnel killed in Israeli strike on healthcare center

An Israeli strike on a primary healthcare center in southern Lebanon killed at least 12 medical personnel, the Lebanese health ministry says as the war between Israel and Hezbollah rages on.

In a statement, the ministry says it “mourns the healthcare workers in Burj Qalawiya who were killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted the town’s primary healthcare center,” adding that “12 doctors, paramedics and nurses on duty at the center were killed, and one healthcare worker was injured” while rescue operations are still ongoing.

The ministry says the attack was “the second against the health sector in a few hours,” following a strike on Sawaneh that killed two paramedics affiliated with Hezbollah and its ally Amal.

There is no immediate comment from the Israel Defense Forces.

Qatar announces evacuation of ‘several key areas’ amid Iranian attacks

Qatar’s interior ministry says it is evacuating a number of areas as Iran presses its retaliatory air campaign against Gulf countries.

The ministry says in a statement it’s “evacuating several key areas as a temporary precautionary measure, within the framework of ensuring public safety until the danger has passed.”

In Doha’s central Musheireb district some residents receive phone alerts telling them to “evacuate the area immediately… to the nearest safest place as a temporary precaution.”
