Chris Spence appeared tired and careworn as he sat in the corruption inquiry’s hot seat in his jeans, an open-necked shirt and a jacket. Been here before, he must’ve been thinking glumly.
A little over a decade ago, Spence lost his job as the Liberal MP for the Entrance after his appearance at another ICAC inquiry, Operation Spicer.
The current inquiry, Operation Rosny, is examining whether “sham invoices” issued by lobbying company Beckington, set up by right-wing Liberal Party operatives Jeremy Greenwood and Christian Ellis, were used to disguise the fact that money for branch-stacking was coming in from Catholic Schools NSW and banned donors, including developer Jean Nassif.
The inquiry has heard one of those secretly receiving money from Nassif was Charles Perrottet, brother of then-premier Dom Perrottet.
