Re-opening Silver Lake Park Road won’t make us safer (opinion)

I can’t figure this one out.

After being closed for five years, Silver Lake Park Road is being re-opened to vehicular traffic.

Motorists who use the road as a shortcut between Forest Avenue and Victory Boulevard, especially during the morning commute, are cheering.

But runners (myself included), walkers, cyclists and folks with dogs aren’t too happy.

The road was closed by Mayor Bill de Blasio during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to give people a chance to get out of their homes while still being able to socially distance.

As there was plenty of space for people in the park as it was, it was frankly a ridiculous reason to close the road. It appeared like nothing more than the pro-Vision Zero mayor using any excuse to stick it to Staten Island motorists. I........
