US drone manufacturer Saildrone saw a major contract extension with the US Navy after one of its drones helped to seize $81 million in trafficked cocaine.

The US Navy recently awarded a naval drone company a $16.3 million contract extension to continue its support to counter-drug operations in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific Ocean. 

This week, the Navy extended the contract awarded to Saildrone, a California-based drone company focused on wind-powered drones, to support the counter-drug operations of the Fourth Fleet. The company had worked with the Navy since 2021.

Major Contract Extension for Counter-Drug Support  

Counter-drug operations have become a national security issue in recent years. Both the Biden and Trump administrations have focused greater resources on the detection and interdiction of drug smugglers before they enter the southern United States.
