US Navy Virginia-Class Submarine Made Secret-ish Visit to UK Base

The US Navy confirmed that the USS Oregon attack submarine had visited a Royal Navy base in Scotland, but did not say how long it had stayed there or where it was headed next.

His Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Clyde, located on the Gare Loch in Scotland and more commonly known as Faslane, remains the sole operating base for the entire Royal Navy’s submarine fleet, including its four Vanguard-class ballistic missile subs (SSBNs) and the seven Astute-class fast attack boats (SSNs). This week, it also played host to a foreign visitor: the United States Navy Virginia­-class fast submarine USS Oregon (SSN-793).

The US Navy doesn’t normally disclose the location of any of the vessels in the “Silent Service,” although general patrol theaters are often known to allies. However, the US Navy publicly confirmed that SSN-793 made a scheduled port visit earlier in the week, arriving on Monday, July 20.

“The visit is part of the submarine’s routine deployment to the US 6th Fleet area of operations.........
