The Jamestown Foundation, a Washington-based think tank, has speculated that Russia might attempt to seize the Baltic states in days and present it to the West as a fait accompli.

Russia could be planning on massing upwards of 115,000 troops on NATO’s northern and Baltic border once the war in Ukraine concludes, according to Denmark’s DR state broadcaster.

DR made the unexpected claim in “War Plan Europe,” a new documentary released by the channel. It claimed that the Kremlin was already preparing for post-Ukraine scenarios with regard to NATO, citing multiple Nordic intelligence chiefs and NATO officials with an understanding of the situation.

However, the next phase of Russia’s “hybrid war” against NATO will probably not be an invasion like the one against Ukraine in February 2022, officials said.

“It will be a war that takes place in all dimensions. It will take place on land, in the air, at sea, in space and in cyberspace,” Danish Major General Brian Nissen said.

The general added that NATO would not simply roll over in the event of a Russian buildup. DR suggested it would “be a war of existence” that could determine where “democracy can survive.”
