ME’s Point of Inflection – Part 1

The US–Israel war on Iran has brought geopolitics in the Middle East (ME), the Greater Middle East Region (GMER), and perhaps the world to a defining inflection point. A comprehensive shake-up of regional and global geopolitical imperatives is thus on the cards. New realities will emerge to recreate geopolitical and geostrategic structures that will be fundamentally different from what prevails today. The ME–GMER complex will be the most affected region. Critical strategic spaces are likely to emerge there which will attract strong, meaningful ingresses from major global and regional powers. States therein might seek a new, well-considered strategic direction in accordance with the evolving geopolitical and geostrategic dynamics. The regional balance of power will thus be redefined as new centres of power emerge consequent to new strategic alignments, partnerships, alliances, interstate relationships, etc.

Regardless of how the war ends, a radically reoriented, restructured ME will replace the current one, ruthlessly dominated by the US-led West and Israel.

This war is putting long-enduring alignments, strategic partnerships, alliances, and relationships of the US under a great deal of stress. Its allies, including NATO, see it as a war started unilaterally by the US–Israel combine for its own strategic objectives and especially Israel’s vital national security interests. Their national interests do not converge in this instance. They are not willing to own this war. None has volunteered or even........
