If you want to breed mistrust and division in your community, you do exactly what Duanesburg Town Supervisor William Wenzel and the Town Board did to the town’s volunteer fire companies: keep vital information from them regarding proposed changes to their contract.

When the fire chiefs showed up for a town meeting last week, they were told about significant changes to their departments’ contract with the town that included more frequent filing of financial reports and less frequent distribution of town money to their departments.

That meeting was the first time many of the firefighters learned of the proposed changes. Most had no advance warning from the town of what they were facing. Apparently no one from the town spoke........
