SENATOR Lindsey Graham died over the weekend. Many wouldn’t have heard of him but due to my obsession with politics, I am sadly aware of many people whose politics has very little to no bearing on my life.

Graham (71), for those unaware, was a Republican senator from South Carolina.

That’s about the only thing he didn’t exaggerate or lie about in his life.

His demeanour fluctuated between “Aw shucks, lowly southern lawyer done good” to one of the most vicious men in the American political game.

He was also, as has been widely discussed in his passing, possibly a gay man. Anecdotal reports followed him through his career.

However, he denied he was gay during his entire time in politics and voted against the rights of LGBTQI people.

Graham voted for the Defense of Marriage Act as a member of the House in 1996.

The legislation defined marriage for federal purposes as the union of one man and one woman and allowed states to decline to recognise same-sex marriages performed elsewhere.

He later supported a proposed constitutional amendment defining marriage........
