Huckabee says he lived in 1 room for 6 weeks before Iran ceasefire

U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee on Friday described his living situation prior to the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, saying he lived in one room and had very limited movement.

“After 6 wks of living at command center in one room w/ 2 dogs, sleeping on cots, making meals in microwave & hot plate,” Huckabee said on social platform X, he is now “back at residence during ceasefire.“

Reflecting on his experience, he said: “Actual bed! Being Ambassador is filled w/ luxury & adventure!”

The U.S. and Iran reached a two-week ceasefire Tuesday, though differences over whether Israeli strikes on Lebanon were part of the deal has raised questions about whether it will hold.

Millions of Iranians have been temporarily displaced as a result of the U.S.-Israeli strikes on the country, according to a March statement by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The UNHCR said as of March that 3.2 million people in the country had been forced to leave their homes.

“Also affected are refugee families hosted in the country, mostly Afghans, who are particularly vulnerable, given their already precarious situation and limited support networks,” Ayaki Ito, who is directing the agency’s response to the conflict, said in a statement. “Families are leaving affected areas amid rising insecurity and limited access to essential services.”

The fragile ceasefire has brought temporary relief around the world, after President Trump suspended what he warned would be a catastrophic attack on the Islamic Republic.

“Everyone I’ve spoken with, it’s given them a new life,” a university student told The Associated Press on Friday regarding the truce. 

The AP also reported that Iranians are concerned that the fighting would resume and that a number of Iranians no longer have homes.

One Iranian said all the homes on her street had been destroyed by strikes, and another said “the streets where a building has been damaged and destroyed, or the houses around it, are different.”
