Watch live: Mike Lee gives remarks on SAVE America Act as Senate weighs election reform bill

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) will give remarks Thursday afternoon on the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, referred to as the SAVE America Act, as the Senate weighs the sweeping election reform bill that would require proof of citizenship to register to vote among other measures.

Lee earlier this week suggested that his GOP colleagues who did not support forcing a talking filibuster to advance the bill — President Trump’s highest legislative priority at the moment — should be replaced. The rhetoric sparked some backlash from Republicans in the chamber, which is now in the midst of a days-long debate on the bill.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) has already rejected calls for a talking filibuster, citing a lack of votes.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) also railed against the legislation, calling it “despicable.”

The press conference is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
