Pope Leo responds to Trump’s attack: ‘I’m not afraid of the Trump administration’

Pope Leo XIV shot back at President Trump after the president went after him on his Truth Social platform Sunday, saying he does not fear Trump.

“I’m not afraid of the Trump administration or of speaking out loudly about the message of the Gospel, which is what the Church works for,” the pope said Monday, while aboard his plane, according to The Associated Press.

“We are not politicians. We do not look at foreign policy from the same perspective that he may have,” Leo added. ”I will continue to speak out strongly against war, seeking to promote peace, promoting dialogue and multilateralism among states to find solutions to problems.”

On Sunday, shortly after 9 p.m., Trump posted to his Truth Social that “Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy.”

“He talks about ‘fear’ of the Trump Administration, but doesn’t mention the FEAR that the Catholic Church, and all other Christian Organizations, had during COVID when they were arresting priests, ministers, and everybody else, for holding Church Services, even when going outside, and being ten and even twenty feet apart,” the president added.

Amid the U.S.-Israeli conflict in Iran, the pope has been posting on his account on the social platform X about peace, saying in one post on Saturday that “God does not bless any conflict.”

“Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs,” he added.

Following a marathon day of negotiations with Iran, Vice President Vance said Saturday that no progress was made in the direction of a peace agreement. The vice president referred to the 21 hours of negotiations with the Iranian delegation as “substantive.”

“That’s the good news,” Vance said. “The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement, and I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States of America. So, we go back to the United States having not come to an agreement.”
