Rep. Luna: ‘I think the votes are there’ to expel Swalwell and Gonzales

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) said she thinks there is enough support in the House to expel Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) and Tony Gonzales (R-Texas), both of whom have been accused of sexual misconduct.

Luna said she would file a motion to expel Swalwell, who has been facing bipartisan calls to step down after a bombshell report from the San Francisco Chronicle that he had allegedly sexually assaulted a former aide of his in 2019 and 2024, both of which happened when the woman was too intoxicated to give consent.

Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-N.M.) is leading a separate effort to remove Gonzales from office. He admitted to having an affair with one of his congressional staffers. The staffer died after setting herself on fire last year.
