Miami residents sue over state land donation for Trump library
A group of Miami residents is suing President Trump and top Florida officials over a state land donation for Trump’s future presidential library and museum, alleging the transaction is unconstitutional.
The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday in the Southern District of Florida on behalf of a Miami nonprofit, several residents and a student at Miami Dade College (MDC).
The community college’s board of trustees voted in September to gift 2.63 acres of real estate to the state of Florida, which then transferred the land to the Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Foundation for future use.
Plaintiffs claim that the land transfer violated the Domestic Emoluments Clause of the U.S. Constitution, which bars sitting presidents from receiving financial benefits from state governments.
