Trump, Secret Service director say agent was not shot by friendly fire at WHCA dinner 

The U.S. Secret Service agent who was injured during a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner last Saturday was not hit by friendly fire, according to the federal law enforcement agency.

Secret Service Director Sean Curran told NewsNation, The Hill’s sister network, that the agent was shot at “point-blank range” by the suspect as he surged a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton hotel. 

“Our officer heroically returned fire,” Curran said.

He confirmed the same details in an interview with Fox News’s Will Cain, adding that the agent fired toward the suspect, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen, at least five times.

The director said Allen was not hit in the exchange and agents were able to subdue him soon after.
