Carville rages against Trump over dyslexia attacks on Newsom
Democratic strategist James Carville in a new video slammed President Trump over disparaging comments he made about California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who has dyslexia.
Carville lugged a slew of insults at Trump in the video for Politicon, sharing his own experience with dyslexia.
“You’re going to tell parents who are trying to teach kids how to read, you’re going to tell parents who have children who have learning challenges, you’re going to tell parents who have children who learn differently, you’re going to tell them that kid can’t grow up to be president? Go f‑‑‑ yourself, you understand that?” the Democratic commentator said.
The president called Newsom a “low-IQ person” and “dumb” after the governor released a book that detailed his experience with dyslexia.
“I think a president should not have learning disabilities,” Trump told reporters on Monday.
Newsom is a potential top contender for the Democratic ticket in the 2028 presidential election. The California governor has not committed to entering this race, saying the decision will be up to his family.
A vocal critic of the president, Carville uses his platform to question the Trump administration’s policies. In the new video clip, Carville addressed Trump directly, saying he loves “that I have dyslexia.”
“I love that I have a short attention span,” he continued. “The only thing that I have ever been able to concentrate on in my whole life is how much I f‑‑‑ing hate you.”
Trump also previously accused Newsom of being a “racist” following comments he made during a stop on his book tour in February.
Newsom told a crowd in Atlanta that he was “no better than you” because he is a “960 SAT guy.”
“You have never seen me read a speech, because I cannot read a speech,” the governor said.
The chair of California’s Republican Party, Corrin Rankin, accused Newsom of talking down to Black voters.
“Gavin Newsom continues to speak down to Black people, saying that we aren’t smart enough, or capable of getting an ID, or passport, or even score higher than a thousand on our SATs,” said Rankin, who is Black.
Newsom defended himself against the criticism, writing in a post on the social platform X that he was only referencing his dyslexia.
“I know that’s hard for a brain-dead moron who bombs children and protects pedophiles to understand,” he said of Trump.
