Altman says OpenAI ‘deeply sorry’ for not flagging Canadian school shooter’s ChatGPT posts
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman offered an apology to Canada’s Tumbler Ridge for not flagging controversial messages on its ChatGPT platform sent by the alleged shooter that killed eight people and injured over 25 others in the small mountain town earlier this year.
“I want to express my deepest condolences to the entire community,” Altman said in the letter, which was shared to social media by British Columbia Premier David Eby on Friday.
“No one should ever have to endure a tragedy like this,” the tech CEO wrote in his letter. “I cannot imagine anything worse in this world than losing a child.”
He added, “My heart remains with the victims, their families, all members of the community and the province of British Columbia.”
