An airport is being renamed for Trump. How many US airports are named for presidents?

(NEXSTAR) – Florida’s Palm Beach International Airport is expected to officially adopt a new name, “President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” on July 9, according to the airport’s website.

If carried out next month, the change will take effect more than four months since Florida’s legislature passed a bill to rename the Palm Beach facility for Trump, and just over three months since Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed it into law.

Airport officials at PBI (or DJT, as of next month) say the name change won’t affect any of its “customer-facing operations,” but the renaming has already prompted backlash. Florida Rep. Lois Frankel (D), whose district includes Palm Beach, issued a statement in February calling the decision “misguided and unfair,” claiming the state’s lawmakers “ignored” locals who opposed the change.

“Decisions about naming major infrastructure should wait until after an honoree’s service has concluded — and should include meaningful input from local residents and communities most directly affected,” Frankel said.

A representative for PBI further told Nexstar that airport officials have received feedback reflecting “a range of viewpoints” concerning the airport’s name change.

“Because the decision was made at the state level, we are not able to make changes in response; however, we appreciate hearing from the community,” the airport rep said.

Palm Beach County commissioners, in May 2026, also narrowly approved a licensing deal with the president’s intellectual property company over the use of the “Donald J. Trump” name, after the Trump Organization in February filed a trademark for its use at........
