Melania Trump’s inaugural gown heading to the Smithsonian

Melania Trump’s inaugural gown is getting a spot in the Smithsonian.

The Hervé Pierre-designed white gown that featured a dramatic black stripe that Trump wore at last year’s presidential inauguration will be showcased at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History’s First Ladies Gallery, it was announced Wednesday.

The creative process and fittings for the gown were also featured in Trump’s recent documentary film, “Melania.”

Melania Trump is expected to deliver remarks at a ceremony at the Washington museum on Friday.

It’s not the first time that one of Trump’s fashions has been featured in the Smithsonian. In 2017, the former model’s 2016 inaugural gown, also designed by Pierre, found a home in the museum’s collection of 1,000 first lady-related artifacts.

Having two inaugural gowns at the Smithsonian is “a rare distinction held by only a few first ladies in history,” according to the White House.

At the 2017 ceremony at the Smithsonian, Trump said, “I must tell you that it can be a daunting task to choose an outfit that will be [memorialized] and become a part of our nation’s story and forever history.”
